New Year’s mantra

I’m not big on setting specific goals, even though I do need to lose weight, exercise more, save money, and spend less time on facebook just like everyone else. Those kind of resolutions require too much bookkeeping, and it’s so easy to let them slide. No, I’d rather have a motto, a guiding principle, a mantra that I can easily remember and not feel like a failure if I don’t have something concrete to show for it. Last year it was Go Outside Your Comfort Zone. Hardly original, but it’s what I needed a year ago. This year, what I need is Finish What You Start.

I’m hoping this one will rub off on the rest of the family as well. For the kids, it means put away your damn toys. For my dear hubby, it means thank you for emptying the kitchen trash; now please put it in the garbage can instead of leaving it by the back door. For me, it means finishing household chores too, and it also means not going off half-cocked on crazy schemes (like hey, today I’ll teach myself to play the ukulele). Or rather, it means that when I do go off half-cocked on crazy schemes, I will try to follow through. Well begun is half done, they say. But half done is still only half done. Finish what you start!

So I made a little poster to go on the fridge, complete with cat butt magnets. The font is Santana Black, which you can download for free here.
